The Weekend in Oviedo

The name Woody Allen is immediately connected to a movie I saw in my later childhood. A movie I maybe shouldn’t have seen at that age which left me seriously pondering if sex was actually a good idea to begin with: Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex, But Where Afraid To Ask. Funnily enough I’ve never seen the movie again since. So maybe I should give it another try to see if my memories are correct.

Reading through Woody’s filmography, I actually haven’t seen much of his work. Saw Scoop and Match Point. Both left me somewhat irritated. Cassandra’s Dream is still on my wanting to see list.

So I went to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona with mixed feelings. Simply hoped that the cast is powerful enough to at least keep me entertained. And I was right. Reading through the comments on Wikipedia someone quoted the movie as “a witty and ambiguous movie that’s simultaneously intoxicating and suffused with sadness and doubt”. That exactly hits the point. The story is simply told, but powerful and truthfully put into the lively and sexy surroundings of a sunny Barcelona.
